Miami Lakes, Fla. (www.orangebowl.org)– Bringing their catalog of Top Ten hits to college football’s premier championship football game, the Grammy-nominated Goo Goo Dolls will headline the halftime show at the Discover Orange Bowl on January 3, 2011 at Sun Life Stadium.  The Goo Goo Dolls join a long standing tradition of top entertainment showcased during the Orange Bowl halftime show, which has included Kelly Clarkson, Jessica Simpson, Ciara, ZZ Top and the Doobie Brothers in recent years.

One of the most globally respected and influential forces in popular music history, the Goo Goo Dolls are no stranger to the big stage.  They have had an unprecedented string of 14 Top Ten multi-format hit singles including “Name,” “Slide” and “Iris,”which spent 12 straight months on the Billboard charts and held the Number One position for 17 consecutive weeks. The Goo Goo Dolls, comprised of lead singer/guitarist John Rzeznik, vocalist/guitarist Robby Takac and drummer Mike Malinin, have also collected 4 Grammy nominations and sold over 10 million albums. Their latest album release, Something for the Rest of Us, was released on August 31, 2010, and features their 14th Top Ten hit “Home.” That extends the Goo Goo Dolls record for most Top Tens in the history of Billboard’s Nielsen BCS-based Adult Top 40 chart, launched in March 1996.

In addition to the Goo Goo Dolls halftime performance, the Orange Bowl will also feature several new exciting elements for fans leading up to kickoff.  From December 31 - January 2,“Orange Drive” will take over South Beach’s famed Ocean Drive from 5thto 14th street, offering musical performances, sports events, a Latin festival, and a variety of other appealing activities.  The Orange Bowl will also be presenting the City of Fort Lauderdale’s “Downtown Countdown”on New Year’s Eve.  And the Air Force Academy Wings of Blue Parachute Team will be “dropping by” the Discover Orange Bowl too, as the team will be participating in pre-game festivities.

The 2011 Discover Orange Bowl, to be held on January 3, 2011 at 8:00 p.m., will feature the ACC Champion against a BCS at-large team. Over its 77-year history the Orange Bowl has hosted 19National Champions and 17 Heisman Trophy winners.  Both the game and Orange Bowl Halftime Show will be broadcast by ESPN, new television partner to the BCS. For tickets, log on to www.orangebowl.org or call 305-341-4702.

To volunteer as an Orange Bowl Ambassador Program presented by Panera Bread, and assist with the halftime show, please log on to https://www.orangebowl.org/committee/ambassador.aspxand use the registration link.
