    Sunday. . . I feel it again. . .it's like some kind of strange stress force field. . .the designated day of leisure has arrived. . . Welcome to another slightly abridged Sunday version of your Daily Goo. . . seems to happen on Sundays. . . relaxin'. . .uh huh. . .August 20th, 2000. . . edition number 51 of this here gathering . . . glad you could make it . . . really. . .

    OK.. . . Daily Goo Quickie yesterday. . . Daily Goo Winner Today . . . that's the way it works. . . and today's no different. . . qualifying with the correct answer to this question. . .

    What was the first rock video by the Goo Goo Dolls to air on the MTV?

    a) Laughing

    b) There You Are

    And . . . by the process of elimination. . we will sort through this short list for ya. . . .

    Laughing . . . a inexpensive video was recorded in and around Buffalo for this song right after the release of Hold Me Up . . . never aired in it's entirety. . . .some of the footage was used in the Behind the Music program. . .never released. . .never aired on MTV

    Torn Apart. . . .a home video . . . assembled by our old producer Armand Petri. . .using tons of old video from past shows etc. . . once again . . . some of it aired on the Behind the music. . . . it was never released commercially . . . and never aired on MTV

    We are the Normal. . .our first venture into "beautiful film". . .a nice grainy black and white video . . . shot in 2 segments. . . L.A. and San Francisco . . . in S.F. the live footage was shot after Johnny sprained his ankle playing basketball earlier that day. . . a bit limply if you take notice . . . the concert footage was recorded at 2 venues . . . one a small club called the Nightbreak and the other in the historic Warfield Theater. . .it aired on MTV 120 minutes . . . but it wasn't our debut. . . .

    James Dean . . . there's home video footage of the actual recording of this song. . . I've seen it pop up occasionally . . . really rare though . . . and of course never released to the public. . .used on the B.T.M. program as well. . . never aired on MTV. . .

    Name. . . this was a biggie for us. . . I think if you had MTV for even one hour during that year . . . you are probably aware of it's presence on MTV. . .wow . . . but most certainly not our first. . . .

    And that leaves . . . the correct answer. . . There you Are. . . We shot this after the Laughing video in Buffalo . . . we brought a crew in to shoot us performing in a little lounge in Buffalo. . . The Elmwood Lounge (Home of the Incredible Lance Diamond) . . . to make an already long story a bit shorter. . . .we couldn't fit all of the equipment into the lounge . . . so after panicking a bit. . . .Our manager Artie called the people of Pilot Field. . .a AAA baseball stadium in Buffalo . . . earlier we had arranged a photo shoot for later that day in front of the scoreboard. . .so we brought over all of the gear to the Diamond . . . and a few short weeks later the Goo Goo Dolls made their MTV debut on the 120 minutes program . . . with the video for the song There you are . . . and there you are. . . click on pictures 1 and 2 for some snapshots of the recording of that video, taken in Buffalo in 1991. . .
